Dorte Krause-Jensen

Dorte Krause-Jensen is a professor in marine biodiversity and ecology at the Department of Ecoscience and the Arctic Research Center at Aarhus University, Denmark. She is also an associate fellow at Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS). Her research focuses on the ecology of vegetated marine ecosystems, particularly seagrass meadows and kelp forests, lately also salt marshes. Key themes are 1) responses of marine vegetation to global and local pressures and environmental drivers, 2) Arctic marine vegetation and climate change, 3) functional roles of vegetated coastal ecosystems, in particular regarding carbon- (blue carbon) and nutrient cycling and storage, 4) protection and restoration of marine vegetated habitats and associated benefits, 5) marine vegetation as indicator of ecosystem status and change. Her research portfolio includes basic, strategic and applied research and has wider societal impact due to her role as advisor to Environmental Authorities on monitoring and management of marine vegetation.
