Ana Queiros

Professor Ana Queiros (Plymouth Marine Laboratory and University of Exeter, UK) is an internationally recognised expert on seaweed blue carbon and climate change ecology, with expertise in field, laboratory and numerical modelling based approaches. Ana has an extensive track record in the co-development of nature-based solutions for ocean management, and is leading research within globally distributed programmes that aim to help practitioners build climate resilience into marine conservation, harvesting and marine spatial planning, including blue carbon conservation. Her team published the first studies demonstrating seaweed carbon sequestration in marine sediments in the wild, and estimating local connectivity pathways between seaweed and the seafloor. She has expertise in the application of stable isotope tools and eDNA as blue carbon tracing tools in nature, as well as in the development of physical models to assess carbon connectivity pathways. She sits in a number of networks and advisory groups promoting better coordination and collaboration between blue carbon research, conservation, policy, industry and finance.
